Well it's still snowing here in Ouray as of May 18th and just about everyone is complaining about it. So I've decided not to complain about it and focus on the upcoming summer and the fun we have planned.
Bluegrass Festival is this June and the line-up looks pretty good, Aimee and I are VIP so it should be great if it stops snowiung by then.
Evan and I are going to see Rush this June, 20 rows back should be awesome and I get to spend a weekend with just Evan on a guys trip. I'm really looking forward to it.
On our family vacation trip to California this year Aimee and I have tickets to see Phish at the Hollywood Bowl in LA. We're super excited, should be a once in a lifetime show.
We're also taking little Ella Blu to Disneyland as a reward for being so brave with all of the doctor visits and blood draws. She really deserves it.
Labor Day weekend Aimee and I are heading over to see Phish for 3 nights then we come back to Telluride to see a great Blues and Brews line up. Should be a nice way to close the summer.
And for our annual fall break Aimee and I are heading back to Denver to see Roger Daltry prefomr Tommy. Should be a great time.
I hope to include video to all of these events over the next few months. It's going to be a great summer.

Mike Gordon and Ella Blu
The Mike Gordon show on Saturday the 12th was one for the ages. When he came on stage there was probably 35 people in the venue, as he came out I shouted "Welcome back to Telluride Mike". Because it was so quite in the venue it was as clear as a bell and he gave Aimee and I a thunmbs up. Pretty cool! The show was amazing with the band weaving several repeat songs throughout the set. They came out and did their encore and many people left. For those of us that stayed the crowd starting stomping and shaking the place until the band came out for a second encore. Pretty amazing! Charlie Hunter and the Getaway
Aimee and I go to spend some time at the Charlie Hunter show in Telluride over the weekend. What a time we had, we got to sit VIP right next to the stage and see the artists up close and personal. It was great to get away and the kids really liked being able to relax and have nothing to do a someplace different.The music was amazing, what a great trio. Here is some video of our weekend.

Winter and Furthur
Winter has been a wild one here, very little snow to start then tons of snow and bitter cold. What better way to escape the winter blues than to take the family over to Boulder and see Furthur (the Grateful Dead minus Jerry). The whole family had a really nice time getting out of the San Juan Mountains and the weather in Boulder was nice(65 degrees).
The Saturday night show had the Hells Angels on the floor and we saw someone dressed in a full chicken suit smoking a huge joint and someone dressed as Kermit the Frog voimit while a barefoot hippy danced through it. Quite a romantic getaway. But don't take my word for it check out my video

2011 Ghosts and Grace
It's difficult to start a story about the new year with the old year so fresh and raw. But these are some of my thoughts on the first day of 2011.
17 years ago I took a New Years drive in an old VW bug with my best friend to a small town in the hill country of Texas. I had no idea that this friend would be my soul mate and saviour for life. Thank you Aimee.
It's been hard for me to stay grounded with the illness of my daughter and the strains that everyday life as a father and husband can put on you, but I've been lucky enough to live in a house that cannot be divided.
Aimee says I need to "stay strong" but that has never been my suit, so I've decided to be who I've always been. Complicated, creative, destructive, and caring.
Some people might not understand me or what I'm doing but I've always viewed myself as someone that many will never understand and others will love with all their heart.
Ella;
The hardest thing I have ever had to deal with is my darling Ella being sick. It would have been hard with any of my children but there has always been something special between Ella and me. To see her ill at such a young age has been the single most difficult thing I have ever endured. If it wasn't for Aimee I would have completely fallen apart by this point.
Community Destruction;
While the rest of the world dealt with foreclosures and money trouble the Ouray community literally took it on the chin. To all of the great families that had to leave we will miss you, for the ones on the verge, hang in there we're with you.
The passage of time;
It's difficult for me to deal with this one and not because my youth is now in the rear view mirror, I do see sunny days ahead. It's difficult because I'm having trouble interpreting the leaves at the bottom of the tea cup. What sort of world will my children know, a world of violence and corruption or a world of tolerance and sharing. I fear the former but pray for the latter.
My Family;
Nothing gives me greater joy than my family. For someone that has seen the darker sides of the street there is no greater joy than feeling loved and accepted. Even though I sometimes try to hide in the shadows away from everything I know that everyone under this roof loves me. Everyone should feel that in their life, thank you family.
Wife;
Aimee is the rock in my life. For 17 New Years eves she has been by my side no matter who I've been. On our first New Years Eve together I bought an $8 bottle of champagne(I still have the bottle). This year we drank a $250 dollar bottle and it's been worth every drop.
Culture;
What happened to my country? Lately it seems we are being told to buy everything no matter the cost, everything for sale and a sale for everything. I've always loved being an American and now is no different but as a nation we need to reconnect with whats important, and it's not the latest Iphone. It's a since of community, pride in what you do, a can do spirit, and some self control. Lets all make a promise to ourselves too have these principals in 2011.
Lastley;
2010 was amazing and cruel at the same time. Phish in Telluride and Broomfield changed my life and reminded me of who I once saw myself becoming and it was great to get reacquainted with that person again. But the illness of my daughter cast a black cloud over my year that I will never be able to get away from. I pray that the lord will bless my family in 2011 and help us deal with the obstacles that come before us.

Thanksgiving and The Wall
Well we just got back from our week long holiday trip to Las Vegas where we had our Thanksgiving and Aimee and I got to see The Wall. A holiday in Vegas is kinda weird but from the people we talked to a lot of people do it.
The real highlight was getting to see Roger Waters preform The Wall. The last time I go to see a Floyd event was 1987 and for Aimee it was 1992, so we were very nostalgic and we even got to have a dinner alone for a change. The show was amazing, brilliantly done, and very moving. Roger Waters took the show to new levels by making the show relevant to today's society by talking about greed, the sex trade, politics, and the influence of technology on today's society.
Roger Waters had talked about how today's wall was the wall that technology presents, so it was only fitting that I had to ask the lady next too me to stop texting so I could enjoy the show.
The show also had tributes to fallen war heroes, activists and others that have been caught in the violence of war and poverty. Like I said very moving. Below is some video from another show, Aimee and I didn't take any this time, we just wanted to enjoy the show.
This video was one of the more moving parts for me, the bricks turn into the pictures of people that have been victims of violence, then they just all disappear to make the wall black, heavy shit.

Walking on Moss
It has been quite the week. I went to Denver and sat on the glass at a hockey game next to the penalty box. Even taunted a player in the box and got him to respond. Also got to eat at the oldest restaurant in Denver, all pretty cool.
Now Aimee and I are taking the kids to Salt Lake City so we can celebrate Joy's birthday and go to see Mike Gordon in a 300 PERSON THEATER. We're pretty excited to get away, especially with Ella's condition of the last couple of weeks. Until I bring that video out check out the Av's game video
